Health Services

At KYS we view health in a holistic way, and supporting rangatahi to live healthy, vibrant lives is what we’re here for.

Health can seem like a simple term, but it actually means a lot of different things.  From colds to cuts to contraception to feeling anxious or sad and everything in between. If you have a question about anything health-related, we can probably answer it. No question is too big or too small, too weird or too silly. It’s all good – we’re here to help. Even just to have a chat.

If you’re between 10-24 years old and live on the Kāpiti Coast, all our services are free and confidential. It’s best to book in advance, but drop-in appointments may be available on the day.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Mental Health is an important part of our overall wellbeing. If we’re not feeling ok, it can impact other areas of our lives and sometimes it makes everything feel a bit hard.

Our sessions are private and confidential, so if anything in the list below resonates with you, please reach out:

  • feeling sad or worried
  • feeling anxious, stressed, dealing with grief or loss
  • feeling angry
  • alcohol and other drugs (AOD) misuse

KYS is here to support rangatahi in ways that suit their unique circumstances. Our qualified and experienced psychologists, nurse therapists and counsellors are committed to finding ways of engaging rangatahi and empowering them to live a healthy, happy life. They use a range of industry-verified approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, interactive drawing therapy, compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR).

While we have a capable and responsive mental health team, it forms part of KYS’ whole-of-service approach to the health and wellbeing journeys of rangatahi, because we know that a young person’s mental health is impacted by all areas of their life.

ALCOHOL & OTHER DRUG SERVICES (AOD)

If you’re wondering or worried about drug and alcohol use – for yourself or someone you know, our qualified AOD counsellor provides non-judgemental support, education, awareness, and coping strategies as well as creating plans to help manage problematic use and dependence.
